This exhibition is the result of an invitation to collaborate with four African or Afro-descendant artists, four women with different but complementary creative techniques, four sensibilities that share the common theme of questioning, through their works, the place of women in Africa, the notion of identity, narrative, and memory. These are all questions that sometimes continue to be disturbing. On one side, Fatoumata Diabaté and Hélène Jayet, both based in Montpellier. They share photography as the starting point for a universe that opens up to other disciplines. On the other side, Khadija Tnana and Ghislaine Ouazanni, active and committed figures based in Morocco, recognized for their
freedom of tone and expression.
This project is above all the possibility of bringing about the meeting between these four singularities through a joint residency organized in the summer of 2023.
Photography, drawing, painting, textiles, weaving, text... through all these techniques, these four artists compose a choral narrative around the current condition of African women, marked by a thousand contradictions.
