From Tuesday 10 to Sunday 15 October the exhibition “WAX” by Mostapha Romli

In his series "WAX" Mustapha Romli takes up the idea of the media and cultural recovery of a fabric considered as an emblem of the identity of an entire continent.

This one, coming from a colonial industrial textile production, with patterns and symbols reinterpreted pell-mell, was inspired by the ancestral technique of Javanese batik.

All this should make its legitimacy difficult, if not impossible...

True symbol and false identity or true identity and false symbol?

Mustapha Romli questions here the relationship between perception, mental images and identity.

Africa, thus identified with a simple fabric, finds its history and geography altered.
